The Fernox CC1 Magnetic Combi Air & Dirt Separator is a high-efficiency device designed to continuously remove air, microbubbles and both magnetic and non-magnetic debris from closed-loop commercial heating and cooling systems. Its combination of hydrocyclonic separation and powerful magnetic capture helps reduce corrosion, maintain system efficiency and protect critical plant equipment.
Suitable for systems containing up to 50% glycol, the range is available in two versions, with flanged connections from DN50 to DN150:
• Standard Flow – suitable for velocities up to 1.5 m/s
• High Flow – suitable for velocities up to 3.0 m/s
High-efficiency particle separation – The CC1 combines hydrocyclonic and magnetic separation to remove both non-magnetic and ferrous debris from circulating system fluid. Hydrocyclonic action promotes the separation of suspended contaminants, while the high-strength neodymium magnet captures ferrous particles. The magnet is housed in a dry pocket, allowing effective magnetic capture without direct contact with the system fluid.
Effective air separation – The internal design promotes the separation of air and microbubbles from the circulating fluid, allowing them to collect at the top of the unit where they are automatically discharged through the integrated air vent.
Optimised flow design – The CC1 features an optimised internal flow path designed to provide effective air and dirt separation while maintaining a low pressure drop through the unit. This supports efficient system circulation without unnecessarily restricting flow.
Robust construction – Constructed from carbon steel with a corrosion-resistant internal coating, the CC1 is designed for long-term use in commercial heating and cooling systems. Its vertical body and flanged connections support straightforward installation and access for servicing.
Easy maintenance – The integrated drain valve allows collected debris to be discharged quickly without requiring system shutdown, helping minimise maintenance time and disruption.
The Fernox CC1 Magnetic Combi Air & Dirt Separator is designed for sealed commercial heating and chilled water systems, including applications in schools, hospitals, offices, plant rooms and other commercial buildings. Installed in-line on the flow or return pipework, it removes circulating air and debris while helping protect key components including pumps, boilers and heat exchangers.
The CC1 is suitable for systems using chemical inhibitors such as Fernox Protector F9.
Location (Heating systems): On the flow line, preferably after the boiler
Location (Cooling systems): On the return line, close to the chiller
The system operates independently of flow direction. The automatic air vent must remain accessible for operation and servicing. The drain valve allows discharge of collected debris without requiring a system shutdown.
Maximum Operating Pressure: 10 bar
Test Pressure: >15 bar
Operating Temperature Range: 0 – 110°C
Installation Orientation: Horizontal pipework
Suitable Fluids:
• Water
• Glycol-water mixtures (up to 50%)
Operating Principle
As water flows through the Combi unit, microbubbles coagulate and rise and are expelled via the integrated automatic air vent.
Simultaneously, magnetic debris is retained by the neodymium magnet located in a rotatable dry pocket, while heavier particles settle at the bottom of the chamber. These can be removed through the integrated drain valve.
This ensures continuous cleaning without interrupting system operation.
• Body Material: Carbon steel
• Internal Coating: Corrosion-resistant
• Magnet: Neodymium, housed in dry pocket
• Air Vent: Automatic, top-mounted (1/2” BSP)
• Drain Valve: Brass
• Connections: Flanged (DN50–DN150), EN 1092-1 / PN16
• Installation Orientation: Horizontal pipework
• Flow Variants:
Standard Flow (up to 1.5 m/s)
High Flow (up to 3.0 m/s
Each unit is hydrostatically tested at >15 bar and shipped pre-assembled. The air vent and drain valves are factory-fitted. The unit must be installed indoors, in a frost-free, ventilated area. System must be depressurised and cooled prior to servicing. Regular drain cycles are recommended every 6 months under normal dirt load.
