Product Overview

The TF1 Total HP Filter is manufactured from a high-strength, glass-reinforced polymer, offering excellent resistance to hydrolysis, strain, and abrasion. The polymer is compatible with glycols and system additives, and is ideally suited for heat pump and modern central heating systems.

Designed for the demands of Heat Pump systems the TF1 Total HP Filter ensures minimal pressure loss whilst continuing to maintain a high collection efficiency. The internal flow paths, stainless steel mesh, magnet assembly, and area of low flow have all been engineered to allow the filter to capture a range of system contaminates, whilst not impacting the rest of the heating system.

The TF1 Total HP Filter utilises a range of high-quality component parts that ensure the filter offers optimum performance. All full-bore isolation valves are designed to allow users to operate them easily by hand, whilst also providing a secure connection to the system and a robust service point. The magnet is manufactured using a premium grade of neodymium, enabling a high-efficiency capture rate, as well as a robust mesh filtration medium that will ensure a continued and consistent level of collection.

Application

The TF1 Total HP Filter can be connected directly on to the pipework using the brass full-bore valve fittings provided. The TF1 Total HP Filter can be installed in any one of 24 separate orientations enabled by its unique inlet/outlet mechanism.

This advanced in-line filter combines a 400-micron integrated mesh with specially engineered magnetic assemblies to capture both magnetic and non-magnetic contaminants, safely retaining them within the unit for easy removal.

The TF1 Filter can be installed on vertical or horizontal pipework, in accordance with the flow direction indicated by the arrow on the manifold. For optimal performance, it is recommended to install the filter on the return to the heat source, with the ability to be positioned up to 45° from vertical position where space or head height is limited.

Operating Principle:
Contaminated water enters the filter via the manifold, carrying a range of system debris and particulate matter in suspension. This debris, including ferrous impurities such as magnetite, passes through the manifold and into the main body of the filter.
The TF1 Total HP Filter utilises a combination of mesh and hydrocyclonic filtration. A hydrocyclone is a static device that applies centrifugal force to a liquid mixture to promote the separation of particles.
This process converts the incoming liquid velocity into rotational motion. As water enters the filter, it spins around and down the inner baffle, carrying particles with it. The internal geometry of the filter creates a low-flow zone at the base, where heavier particles are deposited.
The flow paths within the TF1 Total HP Filter have been optimised to maximise the filtration of both magnetic and non-magnetic contaminants.
As the water flows through the internal baffle, magnetite is captured by a powerful neodymium magnet, while the integrated mesh traps non-magnetic particulate matter. The low-flow zone at the bottom of the filter further promotes particle settlement, enhancing overall collection efficiency and allowing clean water to exit the filter.
Any debris collected within the filter can be discharged by removing the magnet from its sheath and opening the drain valve. This process is outlined in the cleaning guide and can be carried out without disassembling the filter.

Product Instructions

The TF1 Total HP Filter can be connected directly on to the pipework using the brass full-bore valve fittings provided. The TF1 Total HP Filter can be installed in any one of 24 separate orientations enabled by its unique inlet/outlet mechanism.

How to install:

1. Switch off the boiler and drain the system.
2. Connect the Fernox TF1 Total HP Filter to the pipework. The unit should be installed so that the direction of flow within the heating circuit follows the directional arrow on the inlet/outlet port.
3. Tighten all connections. Tighten ring collar to secure position with wrench.
4. Switch boiler back on.

How to clean:

1. Switch off the boiler.
2. Remove the drain valve cap.
3. Open the drain valve.
4. Remove the magnet. Flush out the filter until water runs clear.
5. Close the drain valve.
6. Replace the drain valve cap. Re-insert the magnet.
7. Restart the boiler.

How to dose (express):

*Ensure dosing is completed before system is filled, or when it has been drained.

1. Switch off the boiler.
2. Remove the drain valve cap.
3. Attach the Express adapter and screw onto the drain valve.
4. Open the drain valve.
5. Squeeze the express trigger for 30 seconds.
6. Close the drain valve and unscrew the adapter from the Filter.
7. Replace the drain valve cap.
8. Switch boiler back on.

How to dose (265ml):

*Ensure dosing is completed before system is filled, or when it has been drained.

1. Switch off the boiler.
2. Unscrew filter lid with the spanner provided.
3. Remove lid.
4. Pour the chemical into the filter body.
5. Replace lid and re-tighten using the spanner.
6. Switch boiler back on.

Notes:

РTo prevent frost damage, do not install externally or at temperatures of 0°C or below Inhibitor usage guidelines.
– A TF1 Total HP Filter will protect the heat pump from the damaging effects of circulating corrosion debris, which has collected in the system as a result of a chemical reaction when water comes into contact with mixed metals used within a heating and cooling system. To prevent further corrosion from taking place Fernox recommends using a quality inhibitor in combination with the TF1 Total HP Filter.
– In circumstances where demineralised or softened water is present a quality inhibitor must be used.
