The Fernox CC1 Combi Air & Dirt Separator is a high-efficiency device engineered to automatically remove air, microbubbles and debris through high-efficiency hydrocyclonic separation from closed-loop heating and cooling systems. Suitable for commercial applications, the unit ensures improved system performance, reduced energy consumption and long-term protection of plant equipment.
The range is available in two versions:
Standard Flow – suitable for velocities up to 1.5 m/s
High Flow – suitable for velocities up to 3.0 m/s

The CC1 Combi Air and Dirt Separator is constructed from carbon steel with a corrosion-resistant internal coating, making it ideal for long-term use in commercial plantrooms. Dirt is removed using high-efficiency hydrocyclonic action, separating suspended contaminants from the system water flow.
Its vertical body and flanged design are optimised for ease of installation and maintenance access. Engineered to deliver minimal pressure loss while maintaining high collection efficiency, the unit includes a drain valve that allow for quick servicing without isolating the system. The Fernox Combi Air and Dirt Separator is constructed to operate efficiently within glycol-water mixtures up to 50% and is compliant with PED 2014/68/EU.
The Fernox Combi Air & Dirt Separator improves the system efficiency in sealed heating and chilled water systems in commercial environments such as schools, hospitals, and offices. Installed in-line on the flow or return pipework, it prevents system contamination and protects key components including pumps, boilers and heat exchangers. Compatible with water and inhibited glycol solutions, and ideal for systems using chemical inhibitors such as Fernox Protector F9.
Location (Heating systems): On the flow line, preferably after the boiler
Location (Cooling systems): On the return line, close to the chiller
The system operates independently of flow direction. Automatic air vent must remain accessible. Drain valve allows discharge of debris without requiring a system shutdown.
Maximum Operating Pressure: 10 bar
Test Pressure: >15 bar
Operating Temperature Range: 0 – 110°C
Installation Orientation: Horizontal pipework
Connection Type: Flanged (DN50 to DN150)
Suitable Fluids:
• Water
• Glycol-water mixtures (up to 50%)
Operating Principle
As water flows through the Combi unit, microbubbles coalesce and rise to the top of the chamber, where they are automatically expelled via the integrated automatic air vent.
At the same time, suspended particulate debris is separated from the system water through hydrocyclonic action. Centrifugal forces cause heavier contaminants to migrate towards the outer wall of the chamber and settle at the bottom, where they can be discharged via the integrated drain valve.
This process enables continuous air and dirt removal without interrupting system operation.
Flow Capacities:
• Standard Flow: up to 1.5 m/s
• High Flow: up to 3.0 m/s
• Body Material: Carbon steel
• Internal Coating: Corrosion-resistant
• Air Vent: Automatic, top-mounted (1/2” BSP)
• Drain Valve: Brass
• Connections: Flanged (DN50–DN150), EN 1092-1 / PN16
• Installation Orientation: Horizontal pipework
• Flow Variants:
Standard Flow (up to 1.5 m/s)
High Flow (up to 3.0 m/s
Each unit is hydrostatically tested at >15 bar and shipped pre-assembled. The air vent and drain valve are factory-fitted. The unit must be installed indoors, in a frost-free, ventilated area. System must be depressurised and cooled prior to servicing. Regular drain cycles are recommended every 6 months under normal dirt load.
