BIM Documents

What is BIM?

BIM is the acronym for Building Information Modelling which is a collaborative process using an intelligent 3D digital model of a building to advise, update and communicate project decisions. It delivers more efficient ways of designing and maintaining assets across the project lifecycle.

BIM offers improved transparency and visualisation for all stakeholders, making it easier to achieve project and business goals through co-operation and partnering.

When did BIM come into effect?

First introduced in 2011 as part of a UK government Construction Strategy document, 3D BIM became a mandatory public building procurement process in 2016 for buildings over £5million. The aim of the initiative is to reduce capital and the carbon footprint of the design and build process through collaborative working within the construction industry.
