The Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer range uses electrolytic principles to prevent the build-up of scale throughout the home, and remains effective for up to 10 years, dependent on water usage. It works by altering the structure of the hardness salts, inducing coagulation and providing benefits to a range of appliances from kettles to showers and boilers offering whole house protection against scale. Part L of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) states that in hard water areas which exceed 200ppm, provision should be made to treat feed water to water heaters and hot water circuits of combination boilers to reduce the rate of limescale formation as well as limiting its harmful effects on energy efficiency
The Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer is connected directly to the pipework using pushfit fittings. In an average domestic usage household the Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer will provide whole house protection for approximately ten years dependent on water usage levels. The unit is effective immediately and is guaranteed for 12 months against manufacturing defects. The unit is pressure rated to 10 bar at 20ËšC with an operating temperature of 2ËšC to 40ËšC (cold feed) and is designed for 15mm pipework. Install in compliance with WRAS installation requirements IRN R001, R120, R150, R170, R290 and/or local water regulations.
The Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipework. The unit is classified as non-hazardous.
The Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer is not a water softener but it induces coagulation whilst the water hardness remains unchanged. It works in the same way as a small battery where the brass body (cathode) and internal zinc (anode) are connected via mains water (electrolyte) to alter the structure of the hardness salts. The effect is to enable the hardness salts to cluster together rather than attach to the heat exchanger and pipework in a central heating system. Limescale deposits are more common where heat is generated and can have lasting damaging effects on the efficiency and life of the boiler. The Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer also benefits a range of other domestic appliances including kettles, taps, showers and boilers. Any scale that does form will be less tenacious and easier to remove.
Part L of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) states that in hard water areas which exceed 200 ppm, provision should be made to treat feed water to water heaters and hot water circuits of combination boilers to reduce the rate of limescale formation as well as limiting its harmful effects on energy efficiency. One way to comply with this legislation is to install a Fernox Electrolytic Scale Reducer.
